Elderly and Teen Drivers Cause Mayhem on New Hampshire Roads

Senior_Driver

Drivers at the opposite ends of the age spectrum often cause the most serious crashes in New Hampshire. On one hand, extremely old drivers may no longer have the mental or physical capacity to drive safely. On the other hand, young teens pose risks due to inexperience and risky behavior. Both of these extremes were clearly highlighted by two recent crashes in New Hampshire.

13-Year-Old Causes Fatal Crash After Stealing Delivery Vehicle

In May of 2025, a community in Manchester was rocked by the death of a 13-year-old boy. The teen died in a car accident after allegedly stealing a food delivery car, and this crash also severely injured a 14-year-old girl. Police say that at about 1:00 AM, the food delivery worker called them and told them that his vehicle had been stolen.

After an hour-long search, officers located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit. The pursuit continued onto the highway, with the 13-year-old driver reaching a high speed. Authorities say that at this point, the officers lost sight of the vehicle and called off the chase. A few minutes later, they found the crashed vehicle and quickly determined that both teens had suffered serious injuries.

The impact ejected both of them, and this proved fatal for the teen driver. However, the 14-year-old female passenger survived – albeit with serious injuries. Police say that neither child wore a seatbelt prior to the crash. Grief counselors arrived at the victim’s school the next day, and police began investigating the details of the crash.

90-Year-Old Causes Serious Crash After Driving Wrong Way Down I-89

At around the same time, a 90-year-old driver drove into oncoming traffic on the I-89 before causing a serious head-on collision. Police say that she struck another vehicle occupied by a 67-year-old, and this second vehicle subsequently struck a third sedan. The 90-year-old suffered critical injuries in the collision, while the other two drivers were also hospitalized. One of the affected vehicles was also carrying two dogs, and these animals were transported to a nearby veterinary clinic.

As of this writing, police have neglected to file charges. However, the obvious question is whether the elderly woman should have been behind the wheel at her age. It’s not clear what exactly caused the crash. She could have been suffering from a medical emergency, some kind of vision issue, or a case of cognitive decline.
