Are Witnesses Reliable After New Hampshire Car Accidents?

CarAccidentWitness_

If you’re trying to pursue compensation for a car accident in New Hampshire, you might need to rely on witness testimony. This testimony can make or break your case, and you might need someone’s firsthand observations to prove negligence and recover compensation. But how reliable are these witnesses? What if you’re dealing with a witness who can’t remember what happened? What if the witness seems intent on lying to the authorities? These are issues that experienced personal injury attorneys can help address.

Three Indicted After Alleged Witness Tampering After Scooter Crash

In June of 2025, authorities in Seabrook announced that three people had been indicted for alleged witness tampering in connection with a fatal scooter crash. The incident occurred in August of 2025, and it led to the death of a 57-year-old individual. Police say that the defendant was driving his off-road vehicle on the OHRV path when he failed to properly negotiate a crossing. At this point, the defendant was forced to crash his moped in order to avoid colliding with the defendant.

But the real story began after the crash, when police tried to investigate the fatal crash. Not only did the defendant allegedly flee the scene of the crash, but he also hid his OHRV in his backyard. This made it difficult for the authorities to investigate the accident. Meanwhile, the defendant’s three associates remained at the scene and lied to the police. Specifically, they are accused of telling the police that the defendant was not the one driving the vehicle involved in the fatal accident.

It later became clear that the defendant was driving the OHRV on a revoked license, explaining why his colleagues lied about his involvement. The defendant now faces charges of negligent homicide, falsifying evidence, and fleeing the scene of an accident. His three colleagues face charges of witness tampering.

How Do You Know Whether Witnesses Are Telling the Truth?

It is important to take witness statements with a grain of salt. Not only may these individuals lie, but they might also fail to remember the details. It is possible for witnesses to “hallucinate” certain memories, even if these things never actually happened during your accident. Video footage may be more reliable if available, and your lawyer can help you determine whether a witness is reliable enough to provide information. Fortunately, you can screen witnesses ahead of time to assess their reliability.
