Two Drivers Face Consequences for Causing Wrong-Way Crashes in New Hampshire

WrongWay_

Wrong-way crashes in New Hampshire continue to shatter lives, and two recent incidents illustrate how devastating negligent drivers can be. The two drivers who caused these crashes are facing consequences, but no amount of criminal justice will ever bring the victims back. If you have lost a loved one to a recent wrong-way crash, you might want to contact a personal injury lawyer to learn more about your next steps.

Woman Faces Felony Charges After Heading Down I-95 in the Wrong Direction

On January 26th, 2026, a New Hampshire woman was arrested on felony charges after heading the wrong direction down I-95. The 40-year-old woman now faces charges of felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, aggravated DUI, and reckless driving. Police began receiving 911 calls from concerned drivers at 1:25 AM and found the woman heading south in the northbound lanes.

Officials eventually found the woman in her crashed BMW, having smashed into a concrete barrier. Police say she was impaired. The fact that no one was seriously injured by this woman is something of a miracle.

Two Serious Injuries After Woman Drives Down the F.E. Everett Turnpike in the Wrong Direction

Another wrong-way crash in New Hampshire did not end so positively. On February 2nd of 2026, 13 WGME reported that a woman had caused a major collision on the F.E. Everett Turnpike after driving in the wrong direction. The incident occurred around 1:35 AM, and it began when drivers tried to pull over a 21-year-old woman in a silver Honda. The woman refused to stop, driving another half-mile before smashing into a Nissan Rogue.

The impact severely injured the driver of the Rogue and their passenger. Fortunately, these injuries were not life-threatening. However, they might have been life-altering, and there is no way of knowing how their recovery process will go. The 21-year-old defendant was arrested at the scene and charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, DUI, and reckless driving. The report did not specify whether the defendant also suffered injuries, although this seems likely.

What Kind of Consequences Will a Wrong-Way Driver Face?

Criminal charges can be severe for wrong-way drivers in New Hampshire and may result in significant prison sentences. The decision to bring criminal charges (and what type of charges to bring) is made by the County Attorney in the county where the crime was committed.  However, civil courts are also capable of enforcing penalties, although generally only financial penalties in the form of jury verdicts.
