Attorney Ellen Musinsky brings to our practice a lifetime of work in teaching, litigation, and community service, not the least of which is that she is a Professor Emerita of the University of New Hampshire School of Law.
Attorney Musinsky has 25 years of litigation experience, serving in both New Hampshire state courts and state and federal administrative agencies. A keen advocate for the underprivileged, she began her career at New Hampshire Legal Assistance, a non-profit organization which provides their clients with civil legal services to address the legal problems that affect their daily survival and most basic needs.
Ellen has had a long and outstanding career in teaching as a member of the clinical faculty at the University of New Hampshire School of Law, where she has taught classes in Family Law, Administrative Advocacy, and Non-Profit Corporations. In recent years, Attorney Musinsky developed and ran an externship program at UNH Law. In this program, students receive instruction on professional development while working outside the school, receiving credit for each. Her work with UNH Law continues on a part-time basis in the externship program and in curriculum planning.
Among the many ways in which Attorney Musinsky has made a positive impact on social issues has been assisting in developing many state laws. Among these are:
• Drafting of the state domestic violence statute, including many revisions
• Drafting of substantial revisions of the child protection statute
• Drafting revisions to the guardianship of minors statute
• Assisting with drafting the law which authorizes licensing of naturopathic physicians
• Helping with numerous revisions of state divorce laws
Attorney Musinsky is dedicated to the betterment of our communities. As such, she has taken an active role with numerous community organizations, including:
• Founder, New Hampshire Women’s Lobby
• Founder, Citizens’ Alliance for Gay and Lesbian Rights
• Board member, New Hampshire Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union
• Board Chair and Treasurer, New Hampshire Coalition against Domestic and Sexual Violence
Ellen currently serves as a Board member of the New Hampshire Comprehensive Cancer Collaboration.
Attorney Ellen Musinsky is the recipient of several awards which recognize her outstanding service to the community. In 1987 the Human Rights Campaign Fund awarded her for her advocacy of the gay and lesbian community in response to proposed legislation. In 1993 she was named Volunteer of the Year by the New Hampshire Women’s Lobby. In 2007, Attorney Musinsky won the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association‘s Marilla Ricker Award, which recognizes an outstanding woman lawyer and role model. She has also delivered lectures on Family and Social Security law.
