Motorcyclist Killed After SUV Driver Reverses Onto Road in New Hampshire

A recent motorcycle accident in New Hampshire shows how a moment of confusion can have deadly consequences. The crash was allegedly caused by a driver of an SUV who reversed onto a road before striking and killing the rider. These kinds of crashes are becoming more common than ever in New Hampshire, and they leave families with significant financial and emotional losses.
SUV Was “Backing Onto Highway” Before Fatal Motorcycle Accident
In June of 2025, multiple sources reported that a fatal motorcycle accident had occurred in Litchfield, New Hampshire. The incident reportedly involved an SUV driver who was reversing onto a highway for unknown reasons moments before the crash. The rider impacted the SUV as it was backing up, suffering fatal injuries as a result.
There isn’t much more information to go on. Although police say that multiple witnesses saw the Rav4 reversing onto the Charles Bancroft Highway, they did not reveal why the driver was making this maneuver. They did say that the crash was still under investigation, however.
In general, reversing onto a highway from a side road is incredibly dangerous. The obvious issue is a complete lack of visibility, as reversing causes plenty of blind spots for drivers. Another obvious hazard is the high speeds of highways. If someone approaches while you’re reversing into the road at a slow speed, they’ll have virtually no time to avoid a collision.
These factors can be particularly dangerous for motorcyclists. Although it might be possible to spot an approaching car when reversing onto a highway, it will be much more difficult to spot a smaller vehicle like a motorcycle.
Another Motorcyclist Found Deceased in Londonderry
Also in June of 2025, police found a deceased motorcyclist on the side of the road in Londonderry. An off-duty police sergeant found the man in critical condition and tried to administer first aid while calling 911. However, these efforts ultimately proved ineffective.
Police aren’t sure how the accident occurred. Although this might have been a single-vehicle crash, police also aren’t ruling out a hit-and-run. Police also noted that six motorcyclists have died in New Hampshire during 2025 alone – a high number for a state with a relatively low population.
Crashes of this nature illustrate how dangerous riding a motorcycle can be. However, they also suggest that motorcyclists aren’t always to blame for their own accidents.
