Three Injuries Reported After Head-On Collision on I-89 

In August of 2025, NBC News reported that a major head-on collision had occurred on I-89 near Hopkinton. The accident resulted in three severe injuries, and all victims were rushed to the nearest emergency rooms by first responders. Officials say that the crash was particularly serious because one of the vehicles rolled over after the crash.

First responders arrived at the scene to find a Toyota Matrix on its side, along with a Volkswagen Golf. The head-on impact was so severe that these two vehicles became intertwined with each other, left mangled in a wooded area by the highway.

The three occupants of the Matrix suffered the worst injuries. However, the driver of the Golf also suffered injuries and was hospitalized as a precautionary measure. The crash also shut down both lanes of I-89 for hours as crews worked to free the trapped victims. These individuals were unable to leave the mangled wreckage of their vehicles, which gives you a sense of how crumpled and destroyed these cars were.

The highway was also shut down to allow crash scene investigators to do their work. Despite their involvement, NBC News did not reveal the official cause of the crash.
