Suing After a Wrong-Way Highway Crash in New Hampshire

Some of the worst crashes imaginable are wrong-way collisions on highways. These often end in high-speed, head-on collisions – causing catastrophic or fatal injuries for vehicle occupants. A wrong-way crash is also an obvious sign of negligence, as no responsible motorist drives their vehicle into oncoming traffic. If a crash like this injured you or someone you love, you may be able to hold negligent drivers accountable. Speak with a New Hampshire auto accident lawyer to learn more about your options.
Three Injuries Reported After Head-On Collision on I-89
In August of 2025, NBC News reported that a major head-on collision had occurred on I-89 near Hopkinton. The accident resulted in three severe injuries, and all victims were rushed to the nearest emergency rooms by first responders. Officials say that the crash was particularly serious because one of the vehicles rolled over after the crash.
First responders arrived at the scene to find a Toyota Matrix on its side, along with a Volkswagen Golf. The head-on impact was so severe that these two vehicles became intertwined with each other, left mangled in a wooded area by the highway.
The three occupants of the Matrix suffered the worst injuries. However, the driver of the Golf also suffered injuries and was hospitalized as a precautionary measure. The crash also shut down both lanes of I-89 for hours as crews worked to free the trapped victims. These individuals were unable to leave the mangled wreckage of their vehicles, which gives you a sense of how crumpled and destroyed these cars were.
The highway was also shut down to allow crash scene investigators to do their work. Despite their involvement, NBC News did not reveal the official cause of the crash. That being said, it is safe to say that at least one of these drivers caused the accident. After all, someone was driving in the wrong lane.
What Causes People to Drive Into Oncoming Traffic?
People may drive into oncoming traffic for several reasons. Sometimes, senior drivers become confused and enter highways the wrong way. They subsequently continue driving in a state of disarray before inevitable impacts. In other situations, drivers become confused by misleading or incorrect signage that seems to direct them into oncoming traffic.
Unfortunately, these crashes are also caused by distracted or intoxicated drivers. A drunk driver can easily enter a highway the wrong way, and these motorists might also continue driving into oncoming traffic due to their altered sense of mind.
