Propane Tanker Sparks Fire After Crashing in New Hampshire

TankerTruck

Propane tankers, and other vehicles transporting flammable materials, are some of the most dangerous vehicles on New Hampshire roads. Their hazards are somewhat obvious, and the fact that they carry extremely flammable materials can make fuel tanker crashes catastrophic. Recently, a propane tanker sparked a fire after crashing in New Hampshire – and this incident highlights the dangers of these vehicles. What can you do after a tanker truck crash in New Hampshire?

Propane Tanker Flips Over Guardrail Before Sparking Fire

In April of 2025, police in New Hampshire reported that a major truck accident had occurred on I-93. Two tractor-trailers collided, and one of these vehicles was a propane tanker truck. The collision pushed the tanker truck over the guardrail, where it flipped over and came to rest on its side.

The collision reportedly ruptured the fuel tank, causing a propane leak that subsequently sparked a brush fire. First responders described this fire as “small,” although this was clearly an extremely hazardous situation. If the fire had spread to the rest of the propane inside the fuel tank, a major explosion might have occurred.

Miraculously, no one was seriously injured – although both truckers were hospitalized by first responders for minor ailments. Police also noted that this crash was not caused by the driver of the propane truck. Instead, they say that the other trucker was following too closely while speeding. If this is what caused the collision, it is a clear example of trucker negligence.

After the collision, a hazmat team deployed to the area and tried to contain the leak. They were successful, but traffic was halted while crews cleaned up the crash. One has to wonder what might have happened if a smaller vehicle had been caught up in this crash. What if the propane tank had completely exploded?

Tanker Truck Crashes Can Lead to Catastrophic Injuries

Tanker truck crashes can lead to serious injuries, especially if they result in major fires or explosions. Those caught in the vicinity could suffer fatal injuries caused by fire or flying shrapnel. They may also be trapped within their vehicles while fires spread. Those who survive may struggle with disfiguring burns, smoke inhalation, and other life-altering consequences.

In the event of a fatal crash, families may be able to pursue wrongful death claims on behalf of their loved ones. These claims can cover funeral costs, lost future earnings, and other damages.
