The collision reportedly ruptured the fuel tank, causing a propane leak that subsequently sparked a brush fire. First responders described this fire as “small,” although this was clearly an extremely hazardous situation. If the fire had spread to the rest of the propane inside the fuel tank, a major explosion might have occurred.
Miraculously, no one was seriously injured – although both truckers were hospitalized by first responders for minor ailments. Police also noted that this crash was not caused by the driver of the propane truck. Instead, they say that the other trucker was following too closely while speeding. After the collision, a hazmat team deployed to the area and tried to contain the leak. They were successful, but traffic was halted while crews cleaned up the crash.
