Thanksgiving Crash Victim Honored as More Fatalities Are Reported

CarCrash

For many New Hampshire residents, the emotional trauma of fatal Thanksgiving crashes is still strong. Last year, many people lost their lives in what is widely considered to be the most dangerous weekend for American motorists. Even as past victims are honored by family members and loved ones, new victims lose their lives.

“Turkey Trot” Held to Honor Crash Victim

On November 23rd, it was reported that a “Turkey Trot” had been held to honor the victim of a fatal Thanksgiving crash last year. The Barrington woman lost her life after getting into a car with a drunk driver. The pair then left a bar and rolled over in Portsmouth. She was just 21 years old. The driver was charged with a number of offenses, including negligent homicide.

The bar is now the subject of a lawsuit and investigation that will eventually determine whether staff sold the driver alcohol when he was visibly intoxicated. The purpose of the Turkey Trot was to honor the victim and warn others about the dangers of intoxicated driving – particularly during Thanksgiving Weekend.

Numerous Fatalities Reported Over Thanksgiving in New Hampshire

Unfortunately, the Turkey Trot seems to have fallen on deaf ears for some New Hampshire residents. Once again, this Thanksgiving weekend saw plenty of incidents involving intoxicated drivers – many of which proved to be fatal. It was reported that one intoxicated driver had caused a fatal crash after going down a road the wrong way. After the collision, the driver was taken into custody.

In the Seacoast alone, 23 people were arrested for intoxicated driving, reckless driving, speeding, and other violations over the weekend. The high number of arrests in just one small area shows how serious and prevalent this issue has become.

In another wrong-way incident, State Troopers were suddenly confronted with a drunk driver going the wrong way down a highway in Canterbury. The police vehicle was heading down I-93 when it encountered the drunk driver heading straight for them. The motorist was arrested and taken into custody.

How Can I Pursue Compensation after a Drunk Driving Crash?

There are many ways to pursue compensation after a drunk driving crash in New Hampshire. The most obvious option would be to file an injury claim on your insurance policy or that of the at-fault driver. A personal injury lawsuit might also be possible. Furthermore, you can potentially sue a bar for serving an intoxicated driver who later causes your injuries. To determine the most appropriate course of action after your crash, consider consulting with an injury attorney in New Hampshire.
